A. Preschool Curriculum
In the Preschool, the curriculum focuses on three areas of development:
PHYSICAL and MOTOR DEVELOPMENT - This area of development refers to bodily changes over time and the increasing competent use that is made of the body.
It includes the following components:
• Stability Skills
• Locomotive Skills
• Manipulative Skills
• Pre-writing/Handwriting Skills
SOCIAL and EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT - This area of development refers to children's self- concept development and their ability to get along with others by cooperating, showing social awareness, and building relationships with others.
It includes the following components:
• Self-Related Skills
• Interpersonal Skills
• Task-Related Skills
COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT - This area of development refers to the growth of children's basic mental skills. It is the process by which they acquire knowledge and understanding of the world around them; also, the way they learn to plan, anticipate, and choose a course of action to meet the changing demands of their environment
It includes the following components:
• General Readiness Skills
• Language Skills
• Listening Skills
• Speaking Skills
• Reading Skills
• Writing Skills
• Numeracy Skills
B. Grade School & Junior High School Curriculum
In accordance with the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 101, s. 2024 (Policy Guidelines on the Implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum), the Matatag Curriculum will be implemented for Grades 1, 4, and 7 starting in the 2024-2025 school year. Grades 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 will continue to follow the existing K-12 curriculum guidelines set by the Department of Education.
Under the Matatag Curriculum, the following are the subject areas for Grade 1, 4 & 7
LANGUAGE ( for Grade 1 only ) - This subject provides more emphasis to the development of oral language skills for communication in the learner's first language, which is essential in developing foundational skills for literacy and learning other content areas.)
READING & LITERACY ( for Grade 1 only ) - This subject aims to develop foundational reading skills essential for early literacy. These goals include building phonemic awareness, decoding skills, and recognizing sight words to facilitate fluent reading in the first language.
MAKABANSA ( for Grade 1 only ) - This subject employs a transdisciplinary approach in actualizing the learning intent and content relative to civics, history, art and culture, and health and wellness optimizing integrative learning frameworks, pedagogies, and approaches.
GMRC/VALUES ED ( for Grades 1, 4 & 7 ) - This subject aims to produce Filipino youth who decide with responsibility and accountability, act with right conduct and the inclination to do good, and live their daily lives with love for God, people, environment, country, and the whole world, habitually mindful of the common good.
MATHEMATICS ( for Grades 1, 4 & 7 ) - This subject intends to develop among the learners the proficiency in solving mathematical problems critically, grounded on a strong conceptual knowledge, strategic use of mathematical skills and processes, desirable values and a proper disposition in mathematics, thus enabling them to become productive and successful 21st century citizens.
SCIENCE ( for Grades 4 & 7 ) - The overall goal of this subject is the achievement of scientific, environmental and technology and engineering literacy of all learners by becoming ready to actively participate in local, national, and global contexts and make meaningful contributions to a dynamic and culturally diverse and expanding world.
ENGLISH and FILIPINO ( for Grades 4 & 7 ) - These subjects aim to develop proficiency in both languages, enhancing literacy, communication, critical understanding of texts, and multimodal content creation. They foster learning across content areas with an appreciation for Filipino culture and languages, cultivating 21st-century skills for national and global citizenship.
EPP/TLE ( for Grades 4 & 7 ) - This subject envisions learners to apply life skills that are adaptable in their family/community, become ready for the world of work, engage in entrepreneurial activities and improve their livelihood, generate a business relative to their chosen field of specialization, and further explore higher education.
ARALING PANLIPUNAN ( for Grades 4 & 7 ) - This subject intends to develop among Filipino learners the socio-civic competencies which are significant in developing patriotic, nationalistic, and global-oriented Filipinos who are capable and committed in serving the nation.
MUSIC & ARTS ( for Grades 4 & 7 ) - These learning areas aim to develop the learners' multicultural literacy, artistic and creative expression, and holistic national identity as Filipinos through engaging in, creating, and producing different art forms and creative and innovative expressions.
PE & HEALTH ( for Grades 4 & 7 ) - These learning areas are geared towards the development and attainment of physical and health literacy as well as 21st century skills that contribute to the well-being of the individual, family, and community.
Under the K-12 Curriculum, Grades 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 will continue to follow the same subject areas, which are:
ENGLISH and FILIPINO - These subjects focus on the development of the knowledge of language functions and grammar and competency in the four communication skills: listening (pakikinig), speaking (pagsasalita), reading (pagbabasa), and writing (pagsusulat).
MATHEMATICS - This subject focuses on the development of competencies in basic mathematical concepts and skills: computational skills, mathematical reasoning, problem solving, estimation, geometry, measurement, and mathematical application to daily situations.
SCIENCE ( for Grades 3-10 ) - This subject focuses on the development of basic science concepts and skills along four major blocks: life science (plants, animals, and ecology), physical science (matter and energy), earth science (earth, space, and weather), and the human body.
ARALING PANLIPUNAN - This subject focuses on the development of concepts of role, change and interaction of social institutions: the individual, family, community, country and world.
ESP/CHRISTIAN LIFE EDUCATION/ VALUES EDUCATION - This subject focuses on character formation anchored on the basic teachings of the faith through the Scriptures and teachings of the Church.
MUSIC - This subject focuses on the development of musical sense, basic music, theory, singing and listening skills, and music appreciation.
ART - This subject focuses on the introduction of elements and principles of design, control of a variety of basic art media, visual communication through basic art activities, and art appreciation.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION - This subject focuses on the development of physical fitness, mental alertness, and emotional stability through sports and intramural games.
HEALTH - This subject focuses on developing awareness on personal health and nutrition, sanitation, common illness and first aid environment.
EPP & TLE - This subject focuses on the development of skills, interest, and wholesome attitudes towards manual labor.
